New York bill A9581B would force larger companies to report how AI actually affects jobs, from displacement and reduced hours to new hiring and human oversight. If enacted, companies would need defensible methods for attributing job changes to AI, potentially creating comparable data that separates automation and augmentation from ordinary restructuring labeled as AI transformation.

Good Morning X Family 👥 The AI-jobs debate is starting to move from anecdotes toward auditable reporting. New York bill A9581B would require covered businesses doing business in the state, generally those with more than 50 employees or publicly traded companies, to report estimated AI-related effects such as worker displacement, changed hours, new hiring, positions left unfilled, human oversight and sensitive-data controls. This is bigger than another workforce disclosure proposal. If enacted, management would need a defensible method for saying AI “caused” a job change. That forces HR, finance, legal and data teams to agree on attribution rules instead of using AI as a vague restructuring narrative. My read: the next phase of AI labor policy will be measurement infrastructure. Once comparable data exists, investors and workers can better distinguish automation, augmentation and ordinary cost-cutting relabeled as “AI transformation.” 🧭📋 Disclaimer: Information only, not legal or employment advice.
